The room where Verdi slept and worked is without doubt the most impressive, with the desk where the Maestro used to compose, the four-poster bed, the piano, his books and the terracotta portrait-bust made by Vincenzo Gemito in Naples in 1872, that used to be in the villa’s grounds. A particularly evocative showcase is the one holding the gloves worn by the Maestro when he conducted the Requiem Mass in Milan on 22nd May 1874 in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, a friend whom Verdi greatly admired. In the study there are scores and written texts by Verdi, but also by other musicians such as Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, the hat stand with his top hat and other documents related to the political life of the musician, who was a member of parliament and a senator of the Kingdom of Italy. And then there is the furniture from the room in the Grand Hotel et de Milan, where Verdi passed away at dawn on 27th January 1901, that were taken to the villa.
